Dear FIA brothers and sisters,
Let me begin by expressing my gratitude and excitement to be working collaboratively with you as we move forward with healing and vision. The recent FIA Congress was inspirational. To be able to come together and share hopes for the near future while emerging from a global pandemic only amplified what it means to be an international community.
It was heartwarming to be together, even if only virtually, and to see that while we have all been challenged, we are not alone or isolated. I spoke of how much we have in common – no matter where in the world we live or work. By the end of Congress the hope for a better tomorrow was palpable – for that I am grateful.
As our countries begin to open and vaccines become more and more available we will get back on track. With that, I urge you to read about the new launch of the European Online Interactive Risk Assessment Tool (OIRA) for audiovisual productions.
I also urge you to review a study that focuses on the effect the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the North and South American sectors. Trade unions across the globe are dealing with the pandemic and there are important tools they are utilizing to help mitigate the negative impact on workers.
I want to thank all of the FIA affiliate unions that have shared their challenges and their solutions. Your involvement with helping to collect and disseminate best practices has helped immensely in directing a path for our industry on stage as well as audio visual to reopen and get our members back to work.
Please let Anouk know when you hold educational and informational events online so that she can share that information with all affiliates. As you begin to discover successes within your unions, please share them on social media and remember to tag @fia_actors. Let us work together to inform and shape our industry as we move forward.
In Solidarity,
Gabrielle Carteris,
FIA President
